From October 8 to 11, 2012, the employees of Aigine CRC took part in the national training “strengthening national capabilities to implement the convention for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage”, organized by UNESCO Kyrgyzstan. The activities of Aigine CRC that aimed at preserving, developing and revitalizing traditional music and epic heritage were presented as a successful model for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people. During the training, young participants of the seminars “school for young manaschys” and “learning to play the komuz with Nurak Abdrakhmanov’s En-Belgi system” shared their experiences and gave a short concert program. The specialists representing UNESCO, the holders of traditional music and the director of the folklore-ethnographic ensemble from Ukraine were impressed and expressed their admiration for the talent and skill of our young seminar participants. Further, employees of Aigine CRC handed out publications on sacred sites, the En-Belgi method and the video collection of the Manas Epic to representatives of UNESCO offices from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
In September of this year, a short essay by Cholponai U-G on the tradition of pilgrimage to holy places in Kyrgyzstan along with a small photo report was published in the magazine “Langscape natural holy places; sources of bio-cultural diversity”. A photograph of one of the most inaccessible holy places in the south of Batken region, Shuuduman Zhylu suusu, taken by Gulnara Aitpaeva during fieldwork, was on the cover of the summer edition.
